We have two very different cultures in our world when it comes to singleness and marriage. Some see singleness as a temporary, transitional state until one can find the person to spend the rest of their lives with. Marriage is the fairy tale ending for all who have met their Prince Charming or their Cinderella. Others see marriage as a ball and chain that drags them down and takes away their independence and freedom.

Both of these ideas are faulty and wrong. In 1 Corinthians 7, we see that both singleness and marriage are gifts of God that we are to steward for His glory. That means that we need to find contentment and joy in serving God in the situation we are in.

The choice to be married or single should not be made for our own personal selfish ends. It should be chosen because that particular path is how we can best honor God. When God is at the center of our choices for singleness or marriage, we are less likely to make dumb decisions that are self-motivated.

Hope to see you on Sunday as we walk through The Gifts of Singleness and Marriage!
