By Faith Part II
Hebrews 11:17-31
This week in Hebrews the author takes us deeper into understanding faith by allowing us to see faith played out in a family, in individuals, and in the people of Israel as a whole.
Last week we saw at the beginning of chapter 11 that “…faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen”. We see this idea of faith exemplified out in the rest of this chapter as these people pursued God with a living faith.
Hebrews shows us that we are to be obedient to Christ. We know that obedience to Christ and the Word of God leads to a deeper love. The very thing that led the people in Hebrews 11 to lead bold lives is that they had faith that the promises of God would come to fruition. They had hope that the promise of eternity with our Lord was real. The more they were obedient to God, the deeper their love for him grew.
We often struggle with what’s in front of us in life. There are things that overwhelm us in all areas. Whether in family relationships, our work situation, life circumstances, friendships, or just relationships in general, life can seem to leave us without hope. This usually happens when our hope is set on things of this world.
Our hope should be set on the Kingdom of God. Will you join us this week as we continue to walk through what it means to have faith as it is defined in Hebrews 11?
